Due to unexpected staffing difficulties within the downstream emergency medicine unit, oriented toward general internal medicine at the CHU located at Gabriel‑Montpied Hospital, and in the absence of any immediate solution to sustainably reinforce medical staffing, the CHU has implemented an organizational plan to ensure the continuity and safety of patient care.
This reorganization is based on the coordinated mobilization of the heads of several medical departments. It makes it possible to compensate for the temporary closure of a post‑emergency unit oriented toward general internal medicine, while maintaining a downstream emergency care system adapted to current needs.
Under normal circumstances, the hospital has 53 downstream emergency beds for the adult medical pathway. Thanks to the opening of additional beds in certain units with sufficient medical staffing, capacity will be maintained at 44 beds starting on March 15.
The downstream pathways for surgical, pediatric, and psychiatric emergencies are not affected by this reorganization.
Staff members from the affected unit were informed as quickly as possible. Particular attention has been paid to their temporary assignment to units opening additional beds, in alignment with their skills and work organization.
This arrangement is subject to weekly monitoring, with the goal of progressively reopening beds as soon as medical recruitment makes it possible.
