The Clermont-Ferrand University Hospital is not only a local healthcare facility (58.5% of hospitalized patients at the CHU come from Greater Clermont) but also a regional institution, with 9.2% of hospitalized patients coming from Allier, 4.3% from Cantal, and 3.4% from Haute-Loire.
The 4 main missions of the CHU
1. CARE
All medical specialties are represented at the Clermont-Ferrand University Hospital and are organized into 15 departments. Each department is led by a head of department, and each service is managed by a head of service.
A department includes several services. The heads of departments are appointed by the General Director, upon joint proposal from the President of the Medical Establishment Committee (CME) and the Dean of the Faculty of Medicine.
Each service includes various categories of staff:
Doctors: university professors - hospital practitioners (PU-PH), associate professors (MCU), hospital practitioners (PH), associate professors - hospital practitioners (MCU-PH), university clinic heads, hospital assistants (CC-AH), and interns.
Nurses: healthcare executives, state-certified nurses (IDE), nursing assistants.
Paramedical staff: psychologists, social workers, dietitians, physiotherapists.
Administrative and technical staff.
2. TEACHING/TRAINING
The Clermont-Ferrand University Hospital is affiliated with the University Clermont Auvergne in the fields of medicine, paramedical professions, pharmacy, and dental surgery. Starting from the third year of university, students in medicine, pharmacy, and dentistry undertake internships in the services of the CHU's hospitals.
The CHU is also involved in TRAINING through 10 schools and training institutes:

3. RESEARCH
The doctors at the CHU are also researchers. Research at the CHU is managed by the Clinical Research and Innovation Department (DRCI).
4. PREVENTION
The CHU fulfills its prevention mission through various committees, such as the Food and Nutrition Liaison Committee (CLAN), which promotes good dietary practices, the Hospital Infection Control Committee (CLIN), and the implementation of therapeutic education programs for the management of specific conditions, such as diabetes.
