The University Hospital is mobilizing for diabetes screening and prevention at Place de Jaude

Diabetes affects more than 4 million people and is now a major public health issue. On the occasion of World Diabetes Day (November 14), the Clermont-Ferrand University Hospital is partnering with the French Diabetes Federation Allier / Puy-de-Dôme to organize a screening, information, and prevention booth open to everyone at Place de Jaude.

Diabetes screening and prevention booth

Friday, 14 November, from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM
Place de Jaude, Clermont-Ferrand

At the booth set up in the Associations Kiosk at Place de Jaude, visitors will be able to take a capillary blood glucose test to assess their risk of diabetes. They will also have the opportunity to speak with healthcare professionals from the University Hospital involved in diabetes care: doctors, nurses, dietitians, psychologists, and an adapted physical activity educator.

Visitors will also meet diabetic patients, members of the French Diabetes Federation, who will share their experiences and tips for living better with the disease.

A raffle will be held, offering the chance to win three partner prizes: two online vouchers (value: €25 each) from Les Jardins Auvergnats and one session with Claire Leyssene, a body therapist at Aubière Santé.

Diabetes and Its Management

Diabetes is a chronic disease characterized by an excess of sugar in the blood, called hyperglycemia. Prolonged hyperglycemia exposes individuals to numerous severe complications. Type 2 diabetes, the most common form (90% of cases), usually appears after the age of 40 and becomes more frequent with age. It can go undetected for several years. This disease is often linked to lifestyle changes, particularly an unbalanced diet and lack of physical activity.

The Clermont-Ferrand University Hospital offers comprehensive and personalized care for diabetic patients through specialized consultations and a multidisciplinary day hospital. The endocrinology, diabetology, and metabolic diseases department also provides therapeutic education workshops to help patients achieve greater autonomy in managing their condition. A mobile diabetology team works across different hospital departments to provide expertise for hospitalized patients with diabetes associated with another condition.
